natural resources...

...or using what's at hand -

to create illusions - artistic impressions...  to have fun - play - experiment...  in order to achieve the end result you want in a photograph.  it's about having a plan - a goal - then choosing the path to help you get there...

i don't have any fancy-dancy equipment to help me enhance my photographs - make them appear to have more depth, better lighting or whatever...  sometimes you don't need to have anything either - other than what's at hand - natural resources - available to us every day.  lately, i've been learning to take advantage of those resources - following the example of my princess diva gracie, who has regularly found the wonderful properties of sunbeams - using them on a consistent basis herself...  she is one smart kitty!

so i've borrowed her sunbeams - using them to compliment some tulips i recently purchased.  i think tulips are the epitome of springtime - so to play with them in various ways - with natural light - and adding in other resources, has been a lot of fun right now...

pristine white...

...is a flower

which i've noticed are very hard to capture - white flowers that is.  i don't know why - white is simply a difficult color to get exactly right once you're trying to process it... it appears very different as you're looking at it through the lens - there are many shades and variant layers to it - so it got me to wondering why you see the myriad names at paint stores for white...

there is no "just white"... you've got your antique white - off white - linen white - vanilla - white ice... so on and so forth  - not to mention all the various slightly off whites and ivories you could possibly dream of - it's endless.  wouldn't you love to be the person who gets paid to come up with all those names?  be able to daydream the hours away - thinking up the latest and greatest which will win over the general population of the paint world?

it's like ice cream flavors... or the plethora of yogurts that have suddenly hit the shelves - have you noticed them of late?  it's totally gotten out of hand... who eats all this stuff?  but there are people sitting around the table - getting paid good money in a think tank - coming up with fun names...

butterflies are free...

...free to fly

...free to flutter around the yard - while i chase after them... like a little girl - all i needed was one of those long handled nets to catch them!  that was the day the yard was filled with monarchs - landing on all the yellow dandelions - lighting up the day, shining in the sun - glittering with bold colors... glorious.  nature is so awesome - and in all my years living in this house, i've never been privy to having so many monarchs floating around at one time... truly amazing - although i'm sure they wondered who the crazy lady was chasing after them with the black box...

with a flash of white - i noticed one lone butterfly - standing out from the rest...  not certain what kind it is - perhaps a white cabbage, although the purplish-brown markings - appearing as tiny flowers, aren't totally characteristic... so i'm not positive.  and it moved extremely quickly - making capturing it difficult but i managed to get one decent shot...

this last... i discovered playing camouflage at a local park - trying to hide in a brilliant fluorescent yellow bush... i believe it belongs to the sulfur family of butterflies - only because a friend pointed me in that direction... otherwise, i'd simply be calling it a pretty butterfly.  once it realized i wasn't going to hurt it, it almost seemed to pose for me... remaining very calm and poised...

they are amazing - butterflies are... gracing us with beauty to behold as they take wing to the air - providing entertainment aplenty, leaving childlike wonder behind...

springy flowers...

nothin' like some spring flowers to brighten the day.  i was a bit worried that snow combined with freezing cold temps earlier in the week - might have ruined the blossoms... but it doesn't appear to have done damage... yay!  stems are standing upright - bees are continuing to buzz about - if anything, the cold may have enhanced the colors...

can you smell the fragrance?

happy day.....
